Gina Spanish Teacher

¡Hola! I'm Gina

During the past 25 years, I've been teaching Spanish to a large variety of students from all walks of life, including professionals, executives and highly motivated college students from all around the world: The United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, Asia and even a few students from Africa.

I have a bachelor degree in Education from UPN University (Universidad Pedagogica Nacional) and a masters in Accelerated Education Techniques from ITESM University (Tec de Monterrey).

Since 1994 I’ve been teaching Spanish. First to US college students in Cuernavaca at Cemanauac and Centro Bilingue (now known as Uninter), two recognized schools in Mexico.

In 2002, I started teaching online as an independent teacher, a job I’m still doing.

A year later (2003), I became a certified Spanish language coach at Anders Languages, where I teach to business executives of Fortune 500 companies. A challenging job, but I love it.

I’m the co-author of the Anders Languages course syllabus and the author of the MemoFrases, a tool to work on your Spanish.

Currently, my home is in Seville (Spain), but I have lived in Belgium and Mexico.

Teaching method

My classes are on a one-on-one basis. This does help me well, as I can adapt myself to your needs, profile and goals.

1. Adapting to your needs by focusing on your specific requirements: during our first class, we will discuss your specific needs (in Spanish or English) in order to design a tailor made program. This includes helping you to prepare for an exam, a (business) meeting or presentation. And once your level is high enough, it’s possible to add profession related vocabulary, slang and etiquette such as Spanish for lawyers, healthcare professionals, etc.

2. Adapting to your profile, adjusting my teaching to the way you absorb knowledge: some people need a lot of structure (grammar) while other learn by error and correction. Detecting the type of profile you have, is part of my job, something I will detect after one or two classes with you.

3. We will also set the learning goals together. It's important as it allow you to visualize your progress and keep you motivated. In order to set the goals, I use the CEFR scale or DELE levels.

4. Something both students and teachers tend to forget, is the cultural part of the Spanish language. Of course, the best way to experience the (business) culture is by experiencing the Spanish language in Latin America or Spain. However, part of the culture can also be absorbed by Facebook groups, by reading newspapers or blogs in Spanish and by watching news, television,... on Spanish broadcasting sites. I have a huge list of interesting links I will be pleased to share with you :-)

5. Finally, once your level is high enough, we will also discuss the differences between the Spanish used in most Spanish speaking countries. Very important, because some Spanish words common in one country, can be very offensive in others…
